Well, just thought I'd let you know what I've been up to today. Something slightly out of the ordinairy in fact.
This morning I attended the first ever Yorkshire Miners' Memorial Day service. It was quite a moving service, which included a presentation by performers from the Lamproom Theatre (Barnsley) including several children, and a folk musician, Dick Walker.
The presentation and songs told the story of a mining disaster in which 26 child workers were killed and how that lead to the petition for improved conditions. I arrived quite early, and seated myself in a prime spot, just behind the dignataries, I may only have been there representing myself and Joe public, but I scrub up well, so I felt that I was entitled to sit where I liked.
After the church, there was to be food and a brass band concert, but I didn't stay for that, as I had to come home and feed the family. Pity really, because I would have enjoyed the music.
I had an uncle who died from injuries received in a pit accident. I never knew him, only of him, as it happened before I was born, but nevertheless, I said a special prayer today for my dad's brother "Horace" who I believe died when he was about 26yrs old.

Pity you couldn't have stayed for the concert and how nice that you thought of your Uncle Horace even \\if\\ you never knew him.
