I had a nice afternoon on my birthday, hubby and I went to visit a stately home called Brodsworth Hall. They have recently completed restoration and put four rooms on display. They have been exhibited with contents, as they were left by the last private owner of the place in the nineties.
One room had been used as a storage area, there were many glass cases in there with stuffed animals in them. Many of them showed evidence of deterioration, due to years of abandonment, but one that seemed to be still in good condition was a very large case which contained a peacock and a peahen, both albinos.
They were magnificent, and must have been very rare. I found myself wondering how they came to be in that glass case, had they been killed purely for that purpose? I think that they must have, because it would be rather a big coincidence for two birds of this rare type to have died of natural causes at the same time. It made me feel sad that their lives were cut short, but one still can admire the beauty of what they were.
The gardens were also very nice, it was easy to imagine the wealthy people playing croquet or doing their archery. There are rose gardens with a long pergola which must be lovely in summer. Everything about the place held reminders of the privilege that must it must have been to live there. We took some photos as we wandered round, the weather wasn't too bad.
Afterwards we had a meal in a nearby pub. I always struggle to decide what to eat when I go out for a meal, on this occassion I chose Beef Stroganof with rice, I found it a bit bland, but as it is not a dish that I normally eat, I'm not sure if that was normal or just poor preparation.
So, that was what happened in my life on Tuesday, recorded here for your perusal. Bye for now MSS.
